Creative Ideas for a Baby Nursery

At one time, when parents were expecting a new bundle of joy, the nursery was painted either pink or blue, or a pale yellow or green if the sex of the baby was unknown, and then decorated in color-coordinated accents to match. But today, decorating a baby nursery has evolved into a whole entire world of incredible ideas, to help turn the simplest and most boring of rooms into a whimsical wonderland that's delightful for any baby.

Beyond following any certain individual themes, you're really only limited by your own imagination and creativity, and decorating a nursery can be an incredibly fun project you can easily do yourself. It is, however, rather helpful to decide on a basic overall color scheme when planning the nursery as it makes gift giving much simpler, and also makes it easier to coordinate all of the elements of the room.

Instead of just pinks for little girls, choose a shade of pink along with apple or sage green with accents done in a bright, cheery yellow. For baby boys, forget the traditional and ordinary blue and instead try shades of greens or purples with orange and light blue or yellow accents.

If you or anyone you know has an artistic streak, consider painting a mural or some type of scene on one of the walls and then hang a small light above it to give the painting a charming glow, making it the focal point of the room.

Many baby's nurseries feature the usual border of wallpaper around either the ceiling or on the mid-way point around the walls, but you could use just about anything as a border instead of the usual wallpaper-type. For an unusual border, make your own with non-toxic, water-based paint out of your baby's footprints, including the date, and continuing on around the walls at periodic stages of their life. The footprints could either be stenciled or transferred onto the walls, or for an even more interesting look, frame each footprint separately, hanging the pictures side-by-side all the way around the room, which also eliminates the need for a traditional growth chart.
