Fun and Interesting Themes for a Baby Nursery

Coming up with the absolute perfect theme for your baby's new nursery is a rather fun task as you get to explore the many ideas and choices available, and also get to tap into your own imagination and allow your creative side to shine through.

Be sure to take plenty of time to discover the wide variety of options available for a baby room. At the same time keep in mind that infants need visual stimulation, but also a quiet, relaxing place to rest as well. For this reason, most parents opt for nurseries that are done in two or three colors, limiting the bright, bold accents to one or two areas of the room and keeping the walls, carpeting, or drapes a neutral, calming color.

Nursery Blue Theme - The Sky's the Limit

What could be more calming and serene than a nursery done with the ceiling painted in soothing hues of blues and varying shades of white? You could creat wispy clouds and perhaps the hint of the bright sun peeking out from behind a cloud in one corner. Add a rainbow arcing from the ceiling down to one wall and blend the colors together so that you don't have to be exactly precise in your artwork, but still have it look nice at the same time.

Using a pencil, feel free to experiment with drawing different things before settling on one idea, and remember to make use of stencils, either the pre-made kind or create your own with a craft knife and a few sheets of see-through plastic.

Nursery Themes of Flight - Butterflies, Birds and Balloons

For little girls, paint or stencil butterflies, birds, and hot air balloons on the walls atop a background of pale sage for the grass and pale baby blue on the rest of the walls to meet the sky (ceiling). For baby boys, you may want to keep the hot air balloons and add a few cute bugs, bees, or airplanes "flying" about instead of the butterflies and birds.

The same basic idea can be used to create a "Sweet Dreams" nursery with some celestial elements incorporated into the design. Or, you could also take it a step further and add a nursery rhyme character or two, "The Cow Jumped Over the Moon," for example, as the focal point of the whole room.
